The Story of Our Farm

The story of Ludlow Farms CNY began in 2019. We were comfortably settled in a little Cape-Cod-style house in North Syracuse and loved our life there. Still, a feeling of restlessness started to creep in.

We began to have a dream of putting down roots. We wanted a place where we could dig deep, and lay a lasting foundation for our family. We wanted a place where we could live a simpler life with less distractions. We wanted land that our kids could inherit one day. We started long for the type of home where the memories of the place itself would be just as important as the memories of what happened there.

While on my way to a baby shower in Pennellville, I drove by a farmhouse with a large red barn and a “FOR SALE” sign out front. I quickly texted Caleb “I think I found our dream property!” Three months later we had moved in!

One of the first thing we did that first winter was plan our garden. It was going to be big and full of vegetables. Caleb also suggested that we plant some flowers to cut and I happily obliged, selecting a few easy-to-grow varieties from the seed catalogs.

Well, needless to say the veggies didn’t make it. Other than a few tomatoes and some snap peas, they were a total bust! The flowers, however, seemed to thrive! We spent that summer collecting buckets of zinnias, cosmos, snapdragons, sweet peas, and sunflowers. We gave bouquets away to every friend who stopped by. Our hearts were full and a new idea started to grow.

In 2021 we launched Ludlow Farms CNY. (Fun fact: The original Ludlow Farms is located in Perkasie, PA and was owned by Caleb’s grandparents.) We built a farm stand and placed it at the end of our driveway with fresh bouquets. In 2022, we continued to sell at the farm stand, introduced a new retail location at Sugar Blossom Cake Shop in Liverpool, and launched our first CSA.

Now, we are just months away from the start of the 2023 season and I can’t wait to see what comes of it!!
